Muscle spasm: local jeat, massage and if not allergic use NSAIDS like iibuprofem ( Advil ) or naproxyn sodium ( Aleve ).. If not relieved, see you physician for an exam.

Pain: The pain could be from your neck, thoracic spine, rhomboid/scapula or shoulder. I would be suspicious of facet injury if you heard a crack.
