Sorry for your loss: I am sorry for your loss. Suffice to say that when oxygen tension drops within the blood stream, due to respiratory failure, consciousness is lost rapidly since the brain requires such high levels to maintain function.

It would: be very unlikely that there was consciousness at all at that point where death is imminent from oxygen lack. Hope this is helpful to you Dr Z
