A mix of genetic, : Pre- & post-natal medical & psychosocial factors may contribute to ftt. A developmental/behavioral pediatrician reviews history & medical records of pregnancy, labor delivery, the child's medical records from birth-current, pre- & post-natal head & body growth velocity, & 3- generation family history, then performs physical, neurological & developmental exams to determine other needed studies.

Workup/Mgt: Genetics and patterns of growth in other family members, particularly siblings and parents are predictive of growth/stature. I would recommend that you ask for copies of the growth chart and review them with your physician. If the FTT is not associated with illness, nutritional and/or genetic associations should be further diagnosed. I would suggest supplemental toddler formula to boost calories.
