A member asked:

My son is 3 and was prescribed hydroxyzine for cough and sinus drainage. i am 30 weeks pregnant and have a cold. is it safe for me to take the same do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No, safer meds.: Hydroxyzine is listed as a catergory C med for pregnancy,, i.e., that there have been reports of fetal abnormalities in animals, but not studies in humans, whereas Brompheniramine is a category B, which means that studies have not found any adverse effects in animals, but no adequate tests in humans. Saline nose spray is very effective and safe. Always check with your OB re: Meds during preg.
