Phlegm: Plegm is thickened and increased in dehydration, increase your water for morning phlegm. You may also have some food allergies or sensitivities.

Many possibilities: We need a lot of history from you. Do you smoke, do you have allergies, what kind of work you do? Lungs and bronchus are constantly generating a fine secretion which is the defense mechanism, but when you get inflammation in the airways, by any pathology, your secretions get thick, and body rejects them, so coughing is our defense.Try some mucolytic -decongestant combination for a week.See adoctor.

Salt in diet, air ,,: This might be due to a lot of salt in your diet and so it could be the body's way of removing it besides the digestive system and kidneys. The air in your area might also have a lot of particles in it causing a reaction from your body to them. Also important is that if you sleep with your mouth open a film of phlegm can build up, as it can if you're a mouth breather. Hope this helps.
