It depends.: It is potentially a nidus for infection or inflammation. Also, depending on where exactly it is located, it could migrate or embolize to other parts of the body. An X-ray can't tell the exact location, a CT scan could.. It may never do anything, but despite what the surgeon believes or doesn't believe, if it is there it is there, and should be assessed as to whether it should be removed
