Is it normal to have to push when pooping? should everything just come on it's own or is pushing considered normal?

Pushing: stool out through bearing down can be normal. However if you have to strain excessively that can be another issue. If stool is dry and hard consider increasing fiber in diet and drinking lots of water.

There is a wide: range of normal, between and within individuals. Some mild pushing is probably normal. Excessive straining is not, if you have problems with constipation/excessive straining, see your doc for an evaluation.
