Not normal: You normally should not be straining or pushing during bowel movements. If you are having pain as well, you may have an anal fissure. This is a crack in the anal opening. Can be painful and also make anus feel very tight. You may need a doctor for this. Try adding fiber and fluids, and soaking in warm water with epsom salts. If you have bleeding or pain worsens, see a doctor.
