A member asked:

Hi, my three week old baby (ebf) has foamy yellow poop. she's constantly trying to "push", which is usually a struggle. is this normal in newborns?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pretty common: The yellowish color in stool is the breakdown product of the bile when it has not been in the gut long enough to go through a change to brown. It is normal as is the loose consistency.Infants have flabby loose belly muscles & often require their fussing/breathing muscles to push poop along. This all sounds normal.
