At dr appt husbands bp was 147/90, so they rechecked it & said 110/78. they said this normal. is that really normal to change that much in a few min?

Yes: Depending on when and how they took his initial BP during intake, the blood pressure difference can be significant. Also initial stress/worry/concern about physician visit can increase BP. Standard BP is done with sitting with legs uncrossed and waiting for at least 5 minutes.
