Lump in back of head: May be a cyst or folliculitis ( usually red and tendern). Follow up with doc / urgent care they can open and drain it and give you antibiotics if needed .

Carbuncle : What you desCribe sounds like an early abscess. Do not squeeze the area but use warm compresses with Dilute Epsom Salt solution 3 times a day and then let dry and apply Neosporin or triple antibiotic cream until no longer painful and is flat with redness resolved. If not improving within 24 hours go to your PMD or Urgent Care for evaluation..
