Depends: There are unfortunate systemic side effects of oral decongestants that include elevated blood pressure, sometimes cardiac hyper-excitability with palpitations or worse. Nasal decongestant like oxymetazoline may be effective (use carefully per insert) with less systemic effects. Good hydration helps to thin mucus as drainage through the sinus openings may cause pain. Guaifenesin can also help.
