Your OB/GYN: Well. there is simply no way for us to know if it would be safe for an induction at this point. We don't know how well developed your baby's lungs are. I recommend that you talk with the provider who is giving you obstetrical care. That person will know more about your pregnancy to date and can see do a physical examination. I know that it is very uncomfortable at 38 weeks. Congratulations.

Talk to your OB.: Typically induced labor is reserved for situations where it is deemed medically necessary. Going into labor naturally is generally safer and less painful. The medications used to induce labor have risks associated with their use, and your baby may not be positioned properly. The risk of any medical intervention has to be outweighed by the potential benefit. Discuss with OB, and make a birth plan.
