Light periods: The main reason for light periods is change in hormone levels. Causes for what seems to be a light period can include: thyroid problems, eating disorders, excessive exercise, initial periods for a girl, use of an intrauterine device, oral contraceptives, perimenopause & implantation bleeding in early pregnancy which rarely occurs.

Your female hormones: regulate when you bleed, for how long and how much. If the 1 day of bleeding is typical for you, there may not be any real problem. If you are on a hormone-based contraception, the contraceptive is causing the bleeding pattern. An actual problem would exist only if your natural pattern of bleeding affects your ability to conceive a child. Best wishes. Dr. Anne
