Anovulation: This kind of bleeding occurs when someone is not ovulating. Schedule a visit with your doctor and ask to be tested for polycystic ovarian syndrome. Birth control pills would likely regulate your cycle.

Depends: It is not uncommon to have an abnormal periods. Normally you will have every month. Talk to your md about polycystic ovaries. Stress strenuous exercise, medical problem like diabetes or thyroid condition are a few reasons one might have repeated episodes of abnormal menses. See your md, if appropriate do a pregnancy test.
