Monitor the kids: I think this incident is relatively minor. In theory, hantavirus can be found in rodent excreta, but you are not in one of the 'high risk' areas such as the 4 corners region of the U.S. Since there are other diseases associated with mouse droppings, I would just keep an eye on the kids - if they develop any fevers, cough or respiratory symptoms in the next week see a doc ASAP. Prefer an ID doctor.
