?pinched nerve: This may well be a pinched nerve in the vertebral column at the neck level with radiation of pain toward the shoulder. A disk or spur could be causing the impingement. Wearing a soft neck collar should help and, if you can take them, anti-inflammatory medications like Advil or Aleve are useful. If symptoms persist,see your physician or a neurologist and tests like a neck xray or MRI may be ordered
