I lost my sense of smell after a cold early last month. i get sporadic false sense of smell. for example smell of food when no one is cooking?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Smell: Parosmia, i.e. smell distortion. Olfactory nerve endings damaged with cold. Usually regenerate. Depend on severity of viral infection, exposure to smoke, noxious chemicals, etc. Advice getting flu vaccination annually. Articles suggest that nerve endings can regenerate multiple times, i.e. 15-20x. Total anosmia is infrequent. if you can taste, there is residual smell function.
