A member asked:

Im a 16 year old male and ive discovered a small lump on the left side of my hip, it is firm, but not painful, what could it be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possible scar tissue: A firm, non-tender lump is most likely the result of a small impact injury that caused bruising and possible bleeding in the muscle and has resulted in scar tissue. This should remain the same size or shrink with time, but if it enlarges, it needs evaluation. If the lump is very small and seems to be at the skin level, is is most likely a benign cyst, and can also be watched.
