Hormone withdrawal: The morning after pill as a side effect stimulates the inner lining of the uterus to grow. Once that stimulation is taken away, i.e., the pill is stopped, the excess growth of lining is being shed resulting in ongoing spotting. Eventually, the regular cycle pattern will prevail and the cycle will go back to normal.
