Muscle Spasm: The possibility of muscle spasm is the obvious issue. Some women may be developing venous insufficiency. Others, may need a doppler study (ultrasound) of the leg to rule out a blood clot. If basic pain medications do not help, do seek an evaluation with your physician or go to the ER.

Throbbing pain: That discomfort may be muscular, vascular or bone related. Apparently there is no recent injury such as strain or contusion. Any discoloration, swelling or tenderness? Nerve pain is not usually throbbing. If symptoms persist you will have to be examined by a physician for diagnosis.
