Doctor can check: It's not easy to see and describe one's own tonsils. Throat and tonsil symptoms can be from flu or cold viruses, strep throat, EBV virus, etc... Doctors have 5-minute tests for strep throat (antibiotics are needed to treat strep). Doctors also have a quick test for Flu A and B. Mono is caused by the EBV virus and can cause big tonsils. One's primary care doctor can examine the throat.
