Genital herpes: Herpes is a viral infection. After initial infection as the blisters go away, the virus goes into "hiding" in a nerve cell. It can come out again, particularly if a person is under stress or his/her immune system is low. It can be contagious even when rash is not present. There is no cure for genital herpes but it is treatable. Famcyclovir and valacyclovir are used to treat episodes of herpes.
