Colon: Blood and mucus in stools with left sided abdominal distress suggest rectal or colon inflammation and some form of inflammatory bowel disease. Have you had a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy? Your gastroenterologist is best qualified to evaluate,advise and treat you for this problem.
