A member asked:

Wife has hemorrhagic cyst on left ovary. we've been in er 4 times in 48hrs. what else can be done for the pain?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rule out torsion: Assuming pregnancy is ruled out, ovarian torsion must be excluded in persistent ovarian pain because this requires urgent surgical management. Most hemorrhagic cyst will resolve over time. Analgesics such as high dose Ibuprofen and/or Acetaminophen usually control the pain. Sometimes, narcotic meds may be needed. A large expanding or bleeding hemorrhagic cyst may need surgical intervention.
