A member asked:

What causes chronic telogen effluvium in younger, premenopausal women and how is it treated? can it be reversed and the hair regrown/thickened?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Many possible causes: Many types of stress including surgery, serious illness, childbirth, collagen vascular disease, and malnutrition can cause this. It can be slowly (3 to 4 months) by removing the inciting factors. It may also clear up on its own for unclear reasons. There are some differential diagnoses that must be considered to help rule out alternative diagnoses. Minoxidil is sometimes prescribed.
