A member asked:

I have been having bad diarrhoea on and off and have recently noticed clear mucus in it, what does this mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Diarrhea: If this is not a recent problem due to a viral intestinal tract infection or food poisoning, you may be dealing with chronic bacterial or parasitic infection, gluten intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome or inflammatory bowel disease. Clear mucus isn't unusual in cases of mucus colitis or IBS. A gastroenterologist can evaluate you, order appropriate tests and give dietary advice.
