Advil is ibuprofen: Prescription strength ibuprofen is 800mg. Without knowing the reason for the pain, I think you should stick with the prescribed amount, and not add any additional medications. If the dosage does not seem to be helping, you should contact the doctor that prescribed the medication to further discuss the problem and alternative medications. It is never a good idea to mix pain medications.

Dental pain: Advil/brand and Ibupofen/generic are the same medication. Increasing amount of pain meds will not cure cause of the pain, infection. Antibiotics may reduce severity and spread of infection, but not cure infection. You probably require root canal Rx or extraction. Pills won't cure you. See a Dentist.
