I am experiencing extreme pain in my left shoulder blade and have cough that only seems to make the pain worse...what does this mean?

It may mean Chestinf: Chest infection(Pneumonia) can cause cough and chest pain. The associated pleural reaction(Pleurisy) causes pain which gets worse on deep breathing and or on coughing. Most folks with pneumonia have fever of> 100 degree. If you have any of the above symptoms, you should get medical check from your physician. A chest X-ray may be useful to look for pneumonia.
