A member asked:

9 month old still has indentation/depression on top of head, behind forehead. is that normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Anterior fontanelle: The indentation/depression you are referring to is called the anterior fontanelle. It is a membranous structure that allows for expansion of the skull as the head grows. The anterior fontanelle usually closes between 18 to 24 months of age. Normal to have an open anterior fontanelle at age 9 months.
