DXA: Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (dxa) is a machine that measures bone mineral density (bmd). Two x-ray beams with different energy levels are aimed at the patient's bones, extemely low radiation dose study. Soft tissues are subtracted from bone. The testing measures the bone density or mineral content of the bones of the spine, pelvis, lower arm, and thigh. Bmd reflects calcium content.
