HIV: Cannot survive for long outside its natural environment. Usually it is spread when infected blood or other body fluid comes in contact with a cut or mucous tissue that has been traumatized. You don't have to fear using face cream or bath oil as it is impossible to contract HIV in this manner.

The virus is fragile: This virus depends on a fragile container (envelope, membrane) to avoid detection by the host immune system as a foreign invader... think of a soap bubble perhaps. The envelope is stable only in certain fluids, such as blood. If the viral particle's envelope is damaged, it is vulnerable to attack by the host immune system and cannot undergo the complex process of infecting host cells.
