A member asked:

Do liver spots on my face mean that my liver is not working promptly? if so, what functions of liver are not working promptly?

Liver spots: Liver spots have nothing to do with liver function but are layman's expression for darkened areas of skin. These solar spots are a result of long time Sun exposure.

No: The term "liver spots" recalls an earlier time in the history of medicine when folklore served instead of science. Liver spots are concentrations of melanin pigment. See your dermatologist.

VisualDX: Hi, it’s hard to say without a picture but there is a great app that may be able to help you get a diagnosis without being seen in person by a dermatologist. The app is called VisualDX and is one of the best, if not the best out there. Many clinicians, including myself, use it. Just snap a photo and it gives you a list of possible diagnoses. Good luck!
