A member asked:

I heard that claritin (loratadine) needs several days of consecutive use to be effective. are other allergy pills like allegra (fexofenadine) similar?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

This is a myth: Antihistamines vary in their onset of action (how quickly they relieve symptoms). Allegra, Zyrtec and Benadryl start helping in 2 hours, Claritin in 4 hours. Claritin is generally the least effective, hence the rumor that it takes days to help.
