Rarely: if the cause of the heart failure is NOT CARDIAC (fgor example severe infection, hyperthyroidism...and that cause is removed..heart failure will resolve! However in most cases the heart MUSCLE is faulty and unless corrected with medication or surgery will continue. EF 40-50% is consistent with moderately severe heart failure! Hope this helps1 Dr Z
