Most of the causes: of a "white bumpy thing near the tonsil" would be painful: bacteria/strep or viral sore throat; tonsil stones; thrush or candidiasis caused by yeast; oral herpes; mononucleosis. Leukoplakia is white patches often associated with smoking or chewing tobacco. My first thought would be a stone: calcium deposit which has formed in a small crevice of a tonsil caused by bacteria, unswallowed food.See Doc
