Depends: It depends on what is causing it whether it be trauma, inflammatory arthritis, gout, or osteoarthritis. Have it evaluated to better determine what to do.

Aleve (naproxen) or Advil: It depends on the cause of this arthritic inflammation. Has the knee been x rayed? If not get the knee examined and x rayed. In the meantime you can try aleve (naproxen) or advil.
