Some options...: For treatment of acne, over-the-counter 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel or cream is quite helpful. If desired, a doctor can add an antibiotic gel such as Cleocin (clindamycin). If more help is needed, prescription retinoids such as Retin-A or Differin gel can be used instead of benzoyl peroxide. Oral antibiotics such as tetracycline can be used also. If acne is moderately severe, dermatologist can help.

Acne=infection.: Acne is truly an infection within the pores of the skin, so any effective treatment for acne should initially include both a drying agent (i.e. benzoyl peroxide) and an antibiotic (which could be topical or oral).
