Over 4 years results from echocardiagrams the mean trans- valvular gradient have gone from 4mmhg to the present 8mmhg what does this mean?

Increased pressure: As long as we presume that the measurements are taken accurately, an increase in the mean gradient indicates that the left atrium has to contract with higher degree of workload (pressure) to get the blood into the left ventricle. The reason is a progressive narrowing of the orifice of the valve. Thus, increase in mean (average) pressure difference is concern for mitral stenosis progression.
