Depends on why: A doctor can examine the lips to see why they are inflamed. The cause of problems could be lip eczema, herpes infection, bacterial infection, fungal or yeast infection, or even some type of contact or irritant dermatitis. A topical steroid such as hydrocortisone cream and a topical antimicrobial (to stop viruses, bacteria, or yeast) may be needed.
