Depends on cause: Neither of these antibiotics is better or worse then the other; they are just used for different infections. In AIDS patients, cotrimoxazole is used mostly to treat or prevent pnumocystic pneumonia, whereas azithromcyin is used for mycobacterial infections. Both of these are common opportunistic infections in advanced AIDS. Either drug may be used for other kinds of LRTI. Discuss with doctor.
