A member asked:

My husband just had major abdominal surgery . he now has uncontrollable twitches in his arms and legs. is this normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below : Tremors, twitches, and shakes after surgery are not uncommon. Also referred to as Postanesthesia Shivering (PAS) and is one of the leading causes of discomfort for patients recovering from general anaesthesia. Primary cause felt to be anesthetic inhibiting the body's thermoregulatory capability, although cutaneous vasodilation (triggered by post-operative pain) may also be a causative factor.
