Doesn't matter: HSV is not transmitted by environmental contact, so it doesn't matter how long the virus might survive. Also, you cannot be infected a second time with the virus you already have. If you have oral herpes, protect partners: no kissing or oral sex during an outbreak. If genital HSV2, tell your partners, use condoms, and take suppressive treatment with valayclovir or related drug. Good luck!
