Valacyclovir dose: Outbreak frequency and severity are reduced with valacyclovir (Valtrex) and related drugs, usually not completely prevented. You could increase to 500 mg twice daily (or 1000 mg once daily) for 2-3 days, but check with your doctor. Even on current dose, the outbreak probably will be brief. If occasional outbreaks continue, ask your doctor about raising the ongoing dose to 1000 mg once daily.
