Months to years: The large majority of anal HPV infections do not lead to cancer. When it happens, it can be anywhere from a few months to 30 years or more.

Months to many years: The probability that HPV will trigger anal cancers will depend on multiple factors which include the type /strain of the virus, its virulence/oncogenic potential, the status of the immune system of a person, cofactors; In some cases the premalignant and malignant transformation may take months to years and occasionally regress...; in other cases it may take a decade or more for a cancer to occur.
