Possibly: Might if you have a cough? There are some cough meds that could possibly numb the back of the throat. It would depend on what exactly you were prescribed.

Doubt it: There are ample throat sprays and lozenges that numb the throat in a strep patient.There are also pain meds that are used specifically for pain. There is some codeine in some cough meds, but at low doses. It does avoid some paperwork in some areas for controlled drugs.
