Comfort, STD risk: Sex is not advised until PID treatment is complete because 1) it may be painful, 2) PID usually is the result of an STD, typically gonorrhea or chlamydia, which may transmited to partners, 3) if with an untreated or new partner, may risk getting reinfected, and 4) most women with PID have bacterial vaginosis, which might contribute to PID -- and unprotected sex can prolong or delay cure of BV.
