A member asked:

I've been battling an infection after a knee replacement for a little over a year. is there a natural way to cure vancomycin resistant enterococcus?

Oh my!: Very serious. The location of the infection is very important. If it is in your new joint, it may be impossible. In addition to taking your antibiotics right, it is important to make sure the rest of your body is able to fight infections well--e.g. proper nutrition, extra zinc, vitamins A,C, and D3 supplements, blood sugar and white blood count well controlled.

Yes and no: Depending on how you look at it, and it may already have been done, the most "natural" way to treat someone with an infected total knee replacement is to remove any foreign bodies in your knee that could potentially harbor infection. Unfortunately, however, this means removing the entire knee replacement itself and then trying to eradicate the infection at that point.

No: You are misguided if you think you can experiment on yourself with "natural" cures. These will only waste your money and might be harmful. No supplements of zinc or proteins or vitamins, etc, will be of the slightest benefit. You have a very serious situation which can lead to loss of your knee. Pay close attention to your Drs. Ignore all the other "advise".

Yes but not good: The only "natural" alternative to the best modern medical treatment for vancomycin-resistant enterococcus is death.
