Explanation : During the any "cold", what is usually viral infection, your tongue are somehow involved as well with dryness or exudate. You usually need to drink a lot of fluid with any cold to avoid abnormal sensation.

The throbbing could be arterial pulse within tongue; check if in sync with your carotid pulse to help verify.
