How to know if someone had thalassemia @ beta thalassemia ?what criteria if they had it is dangerous?

Blood test: You may request a hemoglobin electrophoresis. Thalassemia major is the one with severe anemia and requires frequent transfusion. However, beta thalassemia minor is not dangerous most of the time. Hematologist can give you better insight.
